What to Expect During Your Visit

  • In order to stay at the Ronald McDonald House, families must complete a referrral form with the help of a hospital social worker, or their doctor or surgeon’s office, who will then forward the form to the Family Care Coordinator at the House.
  • Ronald McDonald House staff will make the determination to provide lodging and contact the family.
  • No one under the age of eighteen (18) can be in the Ronald McDonald House without a parent or legal guardian present.
  • Our cost to provide each family a room is about $148 per night. Families are asked to make a suggested donation of $15 for each night’s stay, and to provide a nonrefundable room deposit of $40, but no one is ever turned away for inability to pay.
  • The Ronald McDonald House is a very secure and safe place to stay. When you arrive, you will be issued an electronic keycard for your room. The House closes at 8:00 p.m. nightly to all day visitors and guests.
  • House staff are on duty 24 hours each day of the week.
  • When you arrive for check-in, you will be provided with a brief orientation and tour, and asked to sign appropriate forms to use the facility.
  • Parking is available in the Rady Children’s Hospital parking garage, located below the House. The hospital offers a daily rate of $3 with hospital validation, or a weekly parking pass (see parking attendant for current rates).
  • We provide three meals each day on weekdays, and breakfast and lunch on weekends. Refrigerated and pantry items are available outside of meal times. You can use our family kitchen to prepare meals.
  • Fresh bed and bath linens are placed in your room before you arrive for check-in. You are responsible for cleaning your linens during your stay in our laundry room. We provide toiletries and laundry detergent at no charge.
  • Electronic games and family videos can be checked out for use in the facility.
  • During your stay, staff will visit your room, on a weekly basis, for general cleaning and to replenish toiletries and linens. 
  • At checkout, please allow about 10 minutes to complete a room walk through for an inventory checklist, complete an exit letter, and turn in all your room keys.
