JANUARY 28, 2010 - Mickey and Minnie Mouse paid us a visit to bring smiles, hugs, and toys to the delight of many kids and their families. This was part of an Ambassador program to bring the fun of Disney to those who can't visit their parks.

Danielle DuBois, 2010 Disneyland Resport Ambassador shared these comments about their visit, "While we enjoy the guests that come to visit us here at the Parks, we know that for many reasons there are people who can’t come to see us.  So, I travel with some of my good pals to children’s hospitals and care facilities to put smiles on the faces of children and their families when they need it most."

Thank you for bringing goodwill from the "Happiest place on earth" to brighten up our "Home".

Our 2010 Cooking With Love series premiered January 24 at the Ronald McDonald House! Led by Chef Jesús González, participants were taught how to prepare a delicious and healthy three course meal in our NEW state-of-the-art kitchen.  The menu included beet and pine nut salad, eggplant parmesan, and chocolate spa mousse.

It was shared afterwards with the families at the House, who marveled at the delicious and lovingly prepared meal. Many remarked that they were so touched by the attention given to making them such a special dinner - a wonderful end to what was most likely a stressful day at the hospital with their kids.

There are five more classes offered throughout the year. The next cooking class is on Sunday, March 21.

Photos of the new Ronald McDonald House of San Diego, opened in July 2009. This 65,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility, with 47-bedrooms, offers a wide variety of services and spaces for families to relax and regroup. Here they can spend family time together, away from the hospital environment.

Chef Michelle Ciccarelli, Owner of CUPS Organic Bakery in La Jolla, presented the first ever Cooking with Love class at the Ronald McDonald House in September 2009. The menu of this sold out event was an assortment of CUPS cupcake recipes, including the signature "Love Cup", created by Chef Ciccarelli for the Ronald McDonald House of San Diego. A porton of the sale of each "Love Cup" at CUPS La Jolla store, benefits the families at the House. The 2010 Cooking with Love series will offer six more classes, Each will feature a master celebrity Chef from around San Diego, including another class by Chef Ciccarelli.

In partnership with GM Business Interiors and OFS Brands, RMHC-SD presented the inaugural Tables for Tots event on August 20, 2009 to benefit the House. The event, among the first to be held at our new Ronald McDonald House, show-cased the Great Room and the North Courtyard.

Designers, both professional and amateur, were invited to decorate a child-sized table and chair set - everyone got the same set. The tables were put up for auction on an E-bay weblink prior to and during the event. Then they were displayed at the event on August 20, where they were judged by a celebrity panel, for awards in various categories.

Over 300 guests enjoyed hors d'oeuvres provided by The Wild Thyme Company, and freshly made donuts provided by Party Donuts. Photography was done courtesy of MarcieJane Photography.

Hundreds of Ronald McDonald House supporters gathered on April 25, 2009 with their red shoes to celebrate and fundraise at the new Ronald McDonald House. A great time was had by all who attended the first big event in the new House.

The evening began with a VIP reception. Ronald arrived in his tux. In keeping with the theme, red shoes abounded in many different shapes and sizes. Guests enjoyed a variety of cuisines at various food stations created by the best chefs in town. Silent and live auction items kept everyone busy contributing to the future of the House. A guest family shared their heart-wrenching story of putting the pieces back together after a terrible car accident. The crowd was dazzled by live entertainment by a young group of talented local kids.

Everyone had a great time and showed their support of the families at the House in a big way!
