More than just lodging, we provide comfort in a family’s time of need.

Every day, families who are struggling to cope with their child’s medical crisis walk into the Ronald McDonald House® of San Diego. By providing convenient access to the basic necessities of life, we help to make life easier for families who are dealing with their child’s serious illness or injury at one of our local hospitals. With a hot meal, a comfortable bed, and a place to wash clothes, along with the comprehensive services available through our Family Care Center within the House, families get the help they need to focus on what really matters -caring for their seriously ill or injured children.
Any family with a hospitalized child being treated at a San Diego medical facility is eligible to stay at the House. Most families that stay with us would have to drive hours to and from their home, every day. If not for the Ronald McDonald House, many would sleep in hospital waiting rooms or their cars, and get their meals from vending machines in order to stay near their child's bedside.
Our Ronald McDonald House eliminates costly hotel and food bills for these families, while providing a supportive environment and a comfortable place to stay, while they help their child heal. Research shows that when families stay close to their hospitalized child, the child heals faster and the family copes better. We take care of families so they can care for their child.
Our cost to care for a family is about $148 per night, and includes food, utilities, lodging and other House services. We ask families to consider making a donation to help us ensure continuation of these important services. However, we accept any family regardless of their ability to pay.
